Beatles: Drive My Car

Beep beep, beep beep, yeah.

Don’t remember that song? I’m sure you do.

It has already quite slipped my mind but my memory of that song was “revived” while I was driving on my way to get those Rancho shocks that I have ordered from the store. See, while I was driving, I got my radio turned on and this was one of the songs that were played. And boy was I thumping to the beat.

The title of the song is “Drive My Car” and it is a Beatles song. It is part of the album “Rubber Soul”. This one has been written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon and it was released in the UK in 1965.

Beatles’ Drive My Car

So come on. Read the lyrics and maybe the tune will also come back to you.

Drive My Car
The Beatles

Asked a girl what she wanted to be
She said baby, can’t you see
I wanna be famous, a star on the screen
But you can do something in between

Baby you can drive my car
Yes I’m gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
And maybe I’ll love you

I told that girl that my prospects were good
And she said baby, it’s understood
Working for peanuts is all very fine
But I can show you a better time

Baby you can drive my car
Yes I’m gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
And maybe I’ll love you

Beep beep’m beep beep yeah

Baby you can drive my car
Yes I’m gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
And maybe I’ll love you

I told that girl I can start right away
When she said listen babe I got something to say
I got no car and it’s breaking my heart
But I’ve found a driver that’s a star

Baby you can drive my car
Yes I’m gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
And maybe I’ll love you

Beep beep’m beep beep yeah
Beep beep’m beep beep yeah
Beep beep’m beep beep yeah
Beep beep’m beep beep yeah

of double entendres and driving along

“Drive My Car” is a song written by the great songwriting duo of John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

First released in the album “Rubber Soul” in the United Kingdom, it is a double entendre song, with the man suggesting of sexual favors in return for the woman’s career advancement. But a role reversal occurs by the sixth stanza, wherein the woman offers the man to become his driver!

Check out the song:

Drive My Car

Lennon/McCartney

Asked a girl what she wanted to be,

She said “Baby can’t you see

I wanna be famous, a star of the screen

But you do something in between,

Baby, you can drive my car,

Yes, I’m gonna be a star

And maybe I’ll love you”

I told that girl that my prospects were good,

And she said “Baby it’s understood

Working for peanuts is all very fine,

But I can show you a better time

Baby, you can drive my car,

Yes, I’m gonna be a star,

Baby you can drive my car,

And maybe I’ll love you”

Beep beep mm beep beep, yeah

Baby, you can drive my car,

Yes, I’m gonna be a star,

Baby you can drive my car,

And maybe I’ll love you”

I told that girl I could start right away,

And she said “listen baby I’ve got something to say,

I got no car and it’s breaking my heart

But I’ve found a driver and that’s a start”

Baby, you can drive my car,

Yes, I’m gonna be a star,

Baby you can drive my car,

And maybe I’ll love you”

Beep beep mm beep beep, yeah,

beep beep mm beep beep, yeah,

Beep beep mm beep beep, yeah
